Kodner Personal Jeweler

Clayton, Missouri

David Kodner was our jeweler before we were his architects. He is simply the finest jeweler you will ever meet, and the architecture of his new office suite is inspired by his uniquely personal way of conducting business. Throughout the space you will see attention to detail and the richness of natural materials: rough-cut stone, smooth bamboo, marbled cork, stained maple, soft leather, and sculpted gypsum. Three previously separate office spaces were gutted and combined into one unified suite, meeting the practical needs for a large workshop, open office space for his staff, and a private office for David, including a space for private jewelry showings. The biggest design challenge was three large concrete columns that were part of the existing structure. A palette of eco-friendly natural materials creates visually stunning textures that evoke the mysterious origins of gemstones created deep within the earth.
