I found it a pleasure to work with Brian and Peter who were both very professional, easy to work with, and sensitive to the constraints of the church budget.Read More

They understood our needs and desires and helped make this a painless experience. I would highly recommend them for any size job!"Read More
Saint Charles Assembly of God
St. Charles Assembly turned to us for help with their growth plans at their prominently located campus on I-70. We took full inventory of their existing site assets and determined constraints including zoning, topography, site access, visibility, and adjacency to an important highway corridor. After that we performed a complete inventory of their extensive existing facility. This stage of the project involved worshiping with the church on Sunday morning so that we could better understand pedestrian flow and the personality of the congregation. We met with each of their ministry leaders to determine existing facility utilization and future growth requirements. The resulting Master Plan deals with ten years of anticipated growth. When God grants that growth, St. Charles Assembly knows exactly how to respond with their facility.

We were privileged to work with the Vatterott family to re-imagine their existing conference and retreat center located in the gorgeous rolling hills of Missouri near Washington. In order to properly site new facilities we performed a complete facility inventory analysis for the entire campus. That research allowed us to work with the family to properly site new buildings so that the entire campus would be enhanced. That Master Plan work set the stage for a building that is beautifully sited and ties the entire campus together with a new cohesiveness that had been lacking.

Vessel worked with Aprecis Group to develop a Master Plan that would dominate the Southeast corner of Farmington, NM. The Master Plan area encompasses 169 acres. The program featured everything from a movie theater, to big box retail, village streetscape, condominiums, a mega-church, and even single family residences. The beautifully dynamic topography with commanding views across the city posed interesting challenges to the siting and design of the overall development.

Morning Star Church
Morning Star already had a Master Plan when they came to us. But they wisely perceived that the design did not respond well to their needs or reflect their personality as a congregation. So they turned to Vessel to completely re-imagine their future growth on this 24.7 acre site. The key paradigm shift was realizing that the previous master plan was designed as an outdoor campus of buildings in a cruciform layout. This was an approach that might have been a better fit for a Catholic church, but would not work well for an Evangelical Christian church. The layout we co-designed with Morning Star plans for ten years of phased growth that will properly support and enhance the ministries of the church.
- 24.7 Acres
- Phased Master Plan (Phases 1 & 2 already complete!)
- Future 2300 seat Worship Center

Las Cruces, New Mexico | Completed 2008
Las Cruces First Assembly's Worship Center is specially designed to resonate with our modern culture. Instead of a dedicated use “sanctuary” we created a truly “multi-purpose” facility that can transform on a daily basis to meet various ministry needs and serve the larger community. The project fits into an overall masterplan that we designed to support their multi-year strategic plan. Enhancing ministry to our current culture demands social space that supports relationships and invites participation. Our design features a modern concourse that unites the congregation with one continuous and spacious circulation path.

Vessel worked with Calvary Temple to develop a massive masterplan development that would reshape the South side of Springfield, Illinois. The development area encompasses 292 acres (almost 13 million square feet!). The complex land plan involved situating the 20 acre church facility at the heart of a thriving mixed-use development. The plan features a High School, Junior High, Elementary and Daycare educational uses associated with the ministry of the church. Allied uses such as Retail, Office, and a world class Indoor/Outdoor Sports Training Facility anchor the Southwest quadrant. A significant single family Senior Living oriented development along with Senior Apartments served as buffer between the Retail areas and the neighborhoods to our North.

We traveled to Chicago to take part in this Charrette with a team including Civil Engineers, Builders, and Land Planners with a mission to conceptualize redevelopment in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The 9.3 acre site features pristine beach frontage, walkable neighborhoods, and stunning views of the ocean. Our concept maximizes ocean views while defining an elevated terrace over a parking garage designed to minimize the impact of automobiles.
The conceptual use scenario called for a mixed-use development featuring condominiums, a hotel conference center, and offices.
Aprecis Group engaged our creative energies to help this landowner envision a redevelopment project in the wake of their property being devastated in Hurricane Katrina. Our resulting masterplan for the site featured a mix of buildings and uses. Through smart land allocation we were able to use the buildings to establish buffers which open up the interior of the site for private walks, picnicking, and beautifully framed views of the ocean.
National Children's Cancer Society
When NCCS needed to conceptualize their new national headquarters they turned to Vessel to Master Plan an urban site in St. Louis. As you might imagine, the users of the building and grounds are pretty special! The challenge was to design both to support the daily functional requirements of a large non-profit organization and at the same time be a place of rejuvenation for children with cancer and their families. Our concept embraced the metaphor of the butterfly which is expressed in the layout of the site and building in both plan and three dimensionally.
- 10.7 Acres
- Butterfly Garden
- River of Life
- Walking Paths
- NCCS National Offices
- Conference Facilities
- Important adjacency to local hospitals
