Planning for a Successful Church Building Process
Glorifying God in the Process
You are about to go on a long journey, be committed to glorifying God along the way. The Lord has things he wants to accomplish in and through your congregation during your building program. God took the Israelites through a spiritual process before bringing them into the land he promised. Was the destination more important than the process of getting there? The journey you are about to embark upon is almost as important as the destination. Your congregation will learn to give sacrificially. They will be invigorated to see God’s plan unfold. Outsiders will watch your conduct and note the wisdom and grace of your decisions. Neighbors will notice and visit your church. Sub-contractors may be impressed (or not) by how you conduct yourself. We often see workers on the job show up at church. So ask yourself, “What does God want to accomplish in the spiritual life of the church during this process?”
The Process is the Path
So, now that we’ve got the basics covered, how should you proceed? What is the path forward? As you take that first step you will not be able to see where the path leads. Are you comfortable with taking that ‘step of faith’? If so, you’re ready. Let's start the process. Let’s build something that matters for eternity!
“It is one thing to see the forward path and another to take it.”
How does Form Follow Mission?
Your church leadership committee wants its building to matter, to be used in a way that impacts souls for time and eternity. It’s not enough to be the newest church in the county, or the tallest, or the most unusual-looking, or have the largest seating capacity. We have established the proper perspective of your church building as the largest tool in your church’s ministry toolbox, and we know that its beauty must endure.
